The 13th annual Independent Inventors Conference will be held on the campus of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in Alexandria, Virginia August 8-9. A pre-conference workshop, for anyone interested in learning about the basics of patents and the importance of intellectual property protection, will be held on August 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. The workshop is for beginners and is a good foundation for the conference It is included in the $100 registration fee. The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS), The Akron Global Polymer Academy, and The University of Akron are hosting the first-ever Rubber Band Contest for Young Inventors to encourage students in grades 5-8 to demonstrate their creativity and ingenuity by creating an invention that incorporates the use of rubber bands. Three finalists will be brought to Akron, Ohio, where the Grand Prize Winner will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on February 14, 2009. The Grand Prize Winner will receive a $10,000 savings bond, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive $5,000 and $2,500 savings bonds* respectively. The top 12 semi-finalists who are not chosen as finalists will each receive a $50 gift card. The teacher/mentor of each finalist will receive a $500 gift card. The province's union of science societies kicks off its 3rd contest of technical invention in 2007-09 period. The contest is offered to the public on technical invention for the fields of mechanics, electronics, IT, education, agro-forestry and fishery, environment, and healthcare.
